Internationally known for her performances in the films of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, Liv Ullmann has starred in numerous films and theater productions all over the world, including five Broadway productions. In addition to her 11 films with Bergman, which include “Persona,” “The Passion of Anna,” “Cries and Whispers,” “Scenes from a Marriage,” and “Autumn Sonata,” Ullmann earned Oscar nominations for her work in “The Emigrants” (1971) and “Face to Face” (1975).
She went on to write and direct the Danish film “Sophie,” (1992) and adapted and directed the Norwegian film based on Sigrid Undset's epic novel, “Kristin Lavrandsdatter “(1995). Ullmann has written two books, “Changing” and “Choices” translated into more than 24 languages and has directed various stage productions, including “A Streetcar Named Desire,” starring Cate Blanchett, in 2009.
Ullmann is a Commander with Star of the Order of St. Olav of Norway. In the spring of 2014, “Miss Julie,” a film she wrote and directed, which stars Jessica Chastain and Colin Farrell, will be released.
Since 1979, Ullmann has been Vice President International for the International Rescue Committee, a global humanitarian organization assisting millions of people in war and disaster zones around the world. She is also Executive Trustee of the American-Scandinavian Foundation. She holds 18 Honorary Doctorates and has received countless awards for her work.
