Featuring Fused Glass Works by Aki Takemoto
Opening Reception/First Friday Event: Friday, April 4, 2014, 5 -8 p.m.
Show runs through 5/1/14
Japan native Aki Takemoto has had a magnificent artistic career since her start at the Toyama City Institute of Glass Art, placing in multiple contemporary exhibitions over the last seven years.
Her pieces are composed entirely of glass, and each color and pattern combination is greatly influenced by the passage of time. TSUZUREORI roughly translates to "hand-woven fabric", and is prevalent throughout her vibrant, "patchwork-like" sculptures, as well as in her jewelry.
Aki's artistry relies upon her enamel painting and fusing capabilities. She paints on thin sheets of glass, then piles, fuses, and cuts them into smaller sizes. She then assembles the resulting smaller-sized creations into a mosaic which is fused once again.
Aki's jewelry pieces are considered to be mini-representations of her more sizeable sculptures, since her unique patterning and palette are present throughout her work.
