Event Description

Come to the biggest birthday party in the state! On June 16, Downtown Albuquerque will come alive with a massive party for New Mexico's 100th Birthday, and you're invited! Centennial Summerfest will feature a celebration of arts, dance, music, cuisine, science, technology, and the exciting atmosphere of old Route 66. Highlighting New Mexico's diverse history, six pavilions will span Central Avenue between 3rd and 10th Streets, with additional attractions on the adjacent side streets. The highlight of the event will be the Main Stage 8 p.m. appearance of the popular Grammy Award-winning group, Los Lobos. All events are free and open to the public. I'll go but only because I can walk. I have no car and if I wanted to go to the downtown area on a city bus, I might be able to get to the Alvarado Transit Center, but the bus stops on Gold and Copper are out of service.  It's funny (but not ha-ha funny) how many events the city promotes and then the city deletes Suntran service to get to those events. One can take buses to Balloon Fiesta but needs a car to get to the pick up points as normal bus service doesn't start that early. To my knowledge other events held at Balloon Fiesta Park also pretty much require a car. It's funny how folks have to take cars to reach walkathon sites to bring attention to lung cancer... I hope this centennial event is fun; it'll bring some new shoppers to the area.
