Vespus Marimba Band with special celebrity guest
The Vespus Marimba Band is an engaging ensemble of virtuoso musicians who perform traditional Latin, Afro-Cuban and novelty marimba music. Vespus will be joined by special guest, Heidi Swedberg ("Susan" on Seinfeld) of the Sukey Jump Band.
This eclectic menagerie of marimbas, steel drums, guitars, percussion and even tuba that is Vespus will have you grooving, laughing, dancing and in general amazement as they shift from Soca to Montuno to Cumbia, even to Ragtime and jaw-dropping Flamenco. Springing acoustically from the roots of the band Skümbaag (the one and only 21st Century heavy-metal vaudeville troupe), this band promises a great time had by all, young and old. You do not want to miss Vespus in performance!
This week’s poet is Richard Rohr. Fr. Richard Rohr is a globally recognized ecumenical teacher bearing witness to the universal awakening within Christian mysticism and the Perennial Tradition. He is a Franciscan priest of the New Mexico Province and founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fr. Richard's teaching is grounded in the Franciscan alternative orthodoxy--practices of contemplation and lived kenosis (self-emptying), expressing itself in radical compassion, particularly for the socially marginalized.
Fr. Richard is the author of numerous books, including “Everything Belongs,” “Adam’s Return,” “The Naked Now,” “Breathing Under Water,” “Falling Upward,” and “Immortal Diamond: The Search for Our True Self.”
Doors open at 9:30; for best seats, come early and enjoy the coffee and camaraderie!
