Música Antigua de Albuquerque “Composers A to Z”
Musica Antingua will be playing a wide variety of medieval and Renaissance wind, brass, and string instruments. The repertoire will be chosen from their May concert entitled "Composers A to Z" which will feature 26 medieval and Renaissance pieces from composers with names starting with each letter of the alphabet!
The Música Antigua performers are Hovey Dean Corbin, Jr., Dennis Davies-Wilson, Ruth Helgeson, David McGuire, Art Sheinberg, and Colleen Sheinberg. Founded by local musician and early music enthusiast, John Truitt, Música Antigua de Albuquerque has been performing medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music since 1978. In recognition of New Mexico's Hispanic tradition, the ensemble concentrated on the repertoire of Renaissance and medieval Spain in its early performances. Soon, however, the organization began to broaden the scope of its repertoire, and its concerts have since featured music from many areas in Europe from the 13th-18th centuries.
The poet this week is Mary Oishi, author of “Spirit Birds They Told Me” She has published and performed poetry--and produced poetry events--since her arrival in New Mexico in 1999. In addition to being a high profile poet, she is a public radio professional and show host on KUNM-FM.
Doors open at 9:30; for best seats, come early and enjoy the coffee and camaraderie!
