“Imagine…being able to manage your money in a way that not only helps you achieve financial security, but also increases your happiness,” says Donna Skeels Cygan, certified financial planner and a registered investment advisor. Cygan will share the strategies from her new book The Joy of Financial Security during this free lecture at Albuquerque Academy on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
Cygan’s financial expertise is apparent in topics such as increasing your net worth, wise investment strategies, minimizing taxes, and preparing for retirement. She will discuss how to protect yourself from the next economic downturn, how to avoid the pressure to "keep up with the Joneses," and how to make smarter financial decisions. But she doesn't stop there.
Applying research from psychology and neuroscience, Cygan will guide attendees to create happier lifestyles by making small changes that reap big rewards. “Simple changes such as focusing on gratitude, nurturing creativity, and choosing experiences with family and friends over more stuff are encouraged,” she says.
Cygan has received numerous honors, including being selected many times as one of the top financial advisors in the U.S. She has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Forbes magazine, Kiplinger's magazine, USA Today, and Investment News.
She was the owner of Essential Financial Planning, Inc., for ten years before selling the firm in 2007. She is now the President and owner of Sage Future Financial, a fee-only financial advisory firm based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition to running her financial planning firm, she has devoted the past six years to writing The Joy of Financial Security which will be published in October 2013.
The lecture is part of Albuquerque Academy’s Fall 2013 Community Academy lecture series.
