THE DOLLS COMMAND “DIE, MOMMIE, DIE!”
Tinseltown tale of motherhood and murder opens in Duke City
Albuquerque, N.M. (May 2009) –The Dolls, Albuquerque’s premiere drag troupe, presents "Die, Mommie, Die!" written by famed actor, playwright, novelist, screenwriter, and drag legend Charles Busch. This hysterical thriller plays homage to the fabulous soap opera movies that were so prevalent in the 1950s and 1960s. The over-the-top leading performances also bring to mind the great "diva" performances of Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Lana Turner and Susan Hayward.
The plot centers on Angela Arden (Kenneth Ansloan), a famous cabaret chanteuse (think: Peggy Lee or Rosemary Clooney) who inexplicably loses the talents that made her a star. She is trapped in a loveless celebrity marriage. Moreover, this mommie must contend with a mod daughter who despises her (played by A.J. Carian) and a mentally unstable hippie son (played by Erin Best).
When Angela’s Hollywood director husband mysteriously dies, the children conspire to get some answers using the drug of the day, LSD. And what they get out of Mommie is far more terrifying than can be imagined…
Lots of twists and turns (and laughs) for characters all clad in wardrobes that will knock your socks off makes The Dolls’ production of “Die, Mommie, Die!” a must see of Albuquerque’s spring theatre season!
"Die, Mommie, Die!" also stars Jim Johns, Patti Roxxx and Mark Underwood (KASA 2’s Face of Fox) as Angela's very "talented" gigolo boyfriend.
