Event Description

Experiments in Cinema is an annual festival (now in it’s 9th year) that celebrates international cinematic experimentation. This year EIC will screen more than 100 films from 30 countries along with special lectures, hands-on filmmaking workshops and a program of films made by New Mexico middle school students. The goal of this event is to bring the international community of cinematic experimentalists to New Mexico to then inspire a new generation of movie makers to recognize the value of their media-voices and create films in ways we never imagined possible.

In addition to the above mentioned events, this year EIC is partnering with Instituto Cervantes to host Antoni Pinent, a freelance contemporary art/film curator, experimental film producer, and he runs the Cine Invisible section at the Xcèntric (Centro de Cultura Contemporanea de Barcelona) since 2004. Together with Miguel F. Labayen, he also directs “Xperimenta. Miradas contemporáneas al Cine Experimental” (Biennial, 2007 and 2009. Produced by CCCB).

With the assistance of the Trust For Mutual Understanding EIC will also have a special focus on films from the Balkan states. Representatives from the Alternative Film/Video Festival in Serbia will be in attendance to screen films from that region and speak about the rich and diverse history of Cine Clubs in Eastern Europe.
