Event Description

Featuring one of Albuquerque's  favorite formerly California-based painters and printmakers, Eyvind Earle, Palette Contemporary Art And Craft presents, "Green Pastures to Winter Wonderlands",  opening Friday,  November 2, 2012 from 5-8 PM.

You are mostly familiar  with Eyvind Earle's (1916-2000) background as we have shown his pieces, written about, and discussed them with you for a number of years. Here are a number of  Eyvind's varied career highlights of which you might not be aware:

~ 1939- The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City purchased one of Eyvind's watercolors for their permanent collection

~ 1951- Eyvind starts with the Walt Disney Studios and is employed as a background painter, initially. An early feather in his cap was acquired when a production on which he worked, "Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom" won both the Academy Award for "Best Short of the Year" as well as a Cannes Film Festival Award.

During his tenure through the 1950s at Disney, Eyvind served as the Production Designer, Color Stylist, and Background Painter for their animated classic "Sleeping Beauty", as well as "Pigs is Pigs", "Grand Canyonscope", "Paul Bunyan", "Lady and the Tramp", "London Bridge", and "Working for Peanuts".

Eyvind also designed five murals for Disneyland in Anaheim,CA.

~ 1954- He designed the inside Christmas issue cover for "Reader's Digest".

~ 1961- Eyvind created the animated television special," The Story of Christmas" which starred Tennessee Ernie Ford. There's a name from the past that you hadn't thought of in awhile; we bet!

~ 1962- He created an animated television special, "The Easter Special". This program is in the midst of being restored, for future availability, by the Eyvind Earle Estate.

~ 1938-1972- Eyvind developed over 800 Christmas card designs which he sold mostly thru the American Artist Group. More than 300 million cards were sold during these years! Eyvind's fans in Albuquerque, Denver, Palm Springs, and Santa Monica have definitely increased Eyvind's card sales since then and are appreciated!

New for our November show are exhibiting a collection of originally-signed Christmas card serigraphs from Eyvind's personal collection which he prepared to send to family and friends. With image sizes ranging from 5.5(H) to 13(H) and 4(W)  to 11.75(W) inches and presented in black wooden frames, these fine prints are ideally hung during our winter months. Few of these prints exist and many depict an evolving compositional style that Eyvind honed and became identified with throughout his remaining career.

We will also display his enlarged holiday card serigraphs which were published by his estate after his death. These prints, both framed and unframed, have an authentic estate embossing.

Palette continues to carry a large and varied selection of Eyvind's paintings and prints ranging from those depicting green hillsides with stylized grazing, inky-black cows, to snow-covered landscapes with red barns.  We have Eyvind's holiday note-card sets, books, calendars, and other great gift ideas, too!

Palette Contemporary Art And Craft is located at 7400 Montgomery Blvd.NE in Albuquerque's Northeast Heights between Louisiana and Pennsylvania Blvds. Our gallery hours are Monday thru Saturday, 10AM - 6PM MST. For more information, please contact us by phone at 505-855-7777 or e-mail via palettetoo@qwestoffice.net .
