SUMMARY:Groupies: Abstract Paintings by Stefan Geissbühler
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Friday, March 1, 5 - 8 p.m., artist wil
l be present\nPainting Demonstration in Gallery: Saturday, March 2, 11
  a.m. - 4 p.m.\nOn view until April 5, 2013\n \nThursday, January 24,
2013 – This March, visitors to Palette Contemporary Art & Craft wil
l have a chance to view the vibrant and intriguing acrylic creations o
f abstract artist Stefan Geissbühler. The show, entitled Groupies, wi
ll highlight a handful of paintings from his \"mini\" series; but what
this body of work lacks in size, it makes up for in texture, liveline
ss and imagination. A selection of Geissbühler's larger paintings wil
l also be on display. \nA Switzerland native, Geissbühler moved to th
e United States in 1992 to pursue a career in art, and has now worked
successfully as a full time artist for over 19 years. His key sources
of inspiration include travel, nature and music. His work has been sol
d and featured in numerous galleries throughout the U.S. and Europe, a
nd can be found in many national and international, private and corpor
ate collections, including MetLife Insurance, AAM Recordings, the Cham
ber Music Society of St. Louis (CMSSL), and Casino Kursaal Bern (Switz
erland). Most recently, Geissbühler was commissioned by CMSSL to crea
te two paintings for presentation as gifts to the internationally know
n conductor Leonard Slatkin, and Centene Corporation CEO, Michael F. N
eidorff.\nIn terms of technique, Geissbühler regularly paints with sp
ackling knifes and strives to generate \"art that sings\" through each
layer of color. He begins with a loose outline of the subject, then,
depending on the desired outcome, he applies thin, translucent layers
of acrylic, or heavier, saturated layers of the impasto style. Occasio
nally, accent lines are scratched into the paint with a sharp metal to
ol for visual emphasis. Geissbühler handcrafts his own frames from li
ghtweight ebony-stained oak panel.  Each painting is attached with br
ushed-metal cylinders, which allow the painting to float above the pan
el and give the artwork a more modern, three-dimensional look. \nStefa
n Geissbühler's work never ceases to stimulate a spectrum of emotions
and silently invites viewers to take a deeper, atypical look at the w
orld, inside and out.  \nThe Groupies opening reception will take pla
 ce during March's \"First Friday\" event, beginning at 5 p.m. Geissbü
hler will also be in the gallery on Saturday, March 2 for a painting d
emonstration, and his work will continue to be featured at Palette for
the Northeast Heights Arts Crawl on Friday, March 15.\n \n\nFor more
