The story of apple orchards goes back from when Spaniards brought a variety of fruit trees from Spain to cultivate throughout New Mexico in the 1500s. Later, Franciscan monks, homesteaders and hobby horticulturists continued to establish orchards and various apple varietals in New Mexico. The fruit trees checkered past includes use for moonshine as well as grandma’s apple pies. Come learn about the fascinating story of heirloom apple orchards at Carlito Spring where fruit trees serve a different purpose today.
