Pam Roy, Director of NM Food & Agriculture Policy Council, will lead a discussion about local and national policies on food and agriculture. New Mexico communities will face one of the most dramatically changed legislative bodies in many years. Out of New Mexico's 72 State Representative positions, 32 are uncontested and 40 have opposition in the general election. In the Senate race of the 42 Senate seats, 20 have opposition. We will discuss how this impacts individual and community participation in the the 2013 New Mexico legislative session and what we can do to be involved. We'll highlight likely food and agriculture related legislation and how we can advocate for the issues that are most meaningful to us and our communities. Additionally, we will discuss two familiar initiatives: support for NM Grown Produce for School Meals and for NM farmers' markets. Finally, there will be a brief update on the federal Farm Bill and how current options will affect New Mexico and the nation.
