Event Description

Lomas On-site Listening Station (LOLS) is a site-specific radio transmission installed within an empty billboard located on Lomas Boulevard between I-25 and University Avenue in Albuquerque, NM. A microphone installed within the appropriated structure of the abandoned billboard picks up ambient sounds such as the hum of traffic along the heavily travelled I-25, the wind, and the sounds of passersby. All of these sounds are broadcast in real time on an FM signal using a low-watt solar-powered FM radio transmitter and antenna installed within the billboard. The transmission can be heard on a frequency within several thousand feet of the billboard, creating a hyper-local listening station.

Jessamyn Lovell , Liz Shores, and Friends of the Orphan Signs invites the public to join in a celebration and Listening Party on Saturday, May 31 from 6-8p. TFK Smokehouse will be there selling delicious BBQ and some drinks and refreshments will be served compliments of Whole Foods Market. Feel free to bring your own hand held FM radios or listen in your car to 96.9FM. We'll also have some radios available at the site. We encourage you to bring musical instruments and noisemakers of all sorts to have impromptu performances throughout the event.
