Born in Morocco, raised in France, and now living in New York City, Malika Zarra is an inspiring new international voice who, while influenced by jazz, also brings her own culture and creativity to the melting pot. A gifted composer, producer and singer, her sultry multi-lingual vocals move effortlessly between Berber, Moroccan Arabic, French, and English as heard on her latest CD, Berber Taxi. Zarra has performed at famed New York clubs like The Blue Note, The Jazz Standard, and BAM Café, has opened for Bobby McFerrin at Carnegie Hall, and has recorded with John Zorn, Lonnie Plaxico, David Gilmore, Gretchen Parlato and others. She’ll be joined by Amino Belyamani, piano; Mamadou Ba, bass; and Brahim Fribgane, percussion.
Presented in partnership with Women & Creativity 2013
