Spend a whimsical Sunday afternoon with “Music, Dinosaurs and Dance” on March 10, as The Figueroa Music and Dance Project presents Darius Milhaud’s “Creation of the World,” and Bruce Adolph’s narrated musical account of the life story of “Tyrannosaurus Sue: A Cretaceous Concerto.”
With Milhaud’s “Creation” richly colored by the influence of his 1920s infatuation with American jazz music, and Adolph’s composition occasionally reminiscent of the drive and energy of Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring,” the music for the adults will provide a rich backdrop for Adolph’s cretaceous story line for the children and the short Milhaud ballet, presented by Festival Ballet Albuquerque. The Figueroa Project Chamber Music Ensemble will be augmented with both woodwinds and brass instruments for these unusual and engaging selections. Pianist Joshua Rupley, a talented upcoming local young virtuoso, will perform a few selections as well.
