A native of Saskatchewan, Canada, Maxine Thévenot is one of the foremost organists of her generation, hailed across North America and Europe. The thrilling final movement of Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3 showcases polyphonic fugal writing and a massive climax with the whole orchestra. Ms. Thévenot will also perform Poulenc's Organ Concerto. The concert will open with Berlioz's Hungarian March from the Damnation of Faust. Guest conductor Grant Cooper, Artistic Director of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, was born in New Zealand, the son of a professional opera singer. Mr. Cooper’s collaborations with artists such as Hilary Hahn, Midori, Elmar Oliviera and Deborah Voigt have prompted critical praise.
