"Albuquerque's Nob Hill Main Street Announces Monthly Nob Hill Nights Events

Performing Arts Fair to take over Historic Route 66 Community on Thursday Prior to Balloon Fiesta

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) September 21, 2009 -- Albuquerque's recently formed Main Street organization has announced a series of events to be held the first Thursday of every month entitled "Nob Hill Nights."

The first event will be held Thursday, October 1, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and will feature turning Central Avenue--Historic Route 66-- between Dartmouth Drive and Carlisle Avenue into a pedestrian mall featuring more than 20 of Albuquerque's performing arts acts including the nationally recognized and acclaimed Keshet Dance Company.

The events are free to the public and will feature performance stages and roving performing artists.

"We feel that Nob Hill Nights will provide the community and neighborhood with a unique opportunity to enjoy the unique amenities and atmosphere that Nob Hill provides," said Jim Neustel, president of Nob Hill Main Street.

"We are very excited that the Albuquerque arts community, including the University of New Mexico Center for the Arts, has come out in full force to assist us in helping to transform Nob Hill into a vital and energetic center of gravity in Albuquerque."

Many Nob Hill businesses have agreed to extend their operating hours and popular Nob Hill eateries have planned special entertainment and menus in support of the event. The first event is being held the Thursday prior to Albuquerque's nationally popular Balloon Fiesta giving visitors an opportunity to experience another side of Albuquerque.

The Nob Hill Main Street organization has begun several initiatives to revitalize the Nob Hill District of Albuquerque and to improve the quality of life for its residents and businesses. It recently formed its board of directors and has established a strong organization of committed volunteers.

Main Street is a program begun by the National Trust for National Preservation to revitalize business districts of significant historical and cultural value to their communities. Albuquerque's Nob Hill neighborhood was designated an emerging Main Street community earlier in the year."
