Outpost presents the Second Annual Gala Fundraiser at the Albuquerque Museum which features a dinner and silent auction fundraiser for the Outpost Performance Space plus a Raffle for a special Jazz Cruise, followed by a concert at 8:30 pm in the Albuquerque Museum Amphitheater by the legendary funk and jazz saxophonist, Maceo Parker. A legend whose name is synonymous with Funky Music, Maceo Parker has been called "the living, breathing pulse which connects the history of Funk in one golden thread-the cipher which unravels dance music down to its core." Best known for his work with James Brown in the 1960s, as well as George Clinton's Parliament Funkadelic in the 1970s, he has, for the past sixteen years, been building a new funk empire, navigating between Brown's 60's soul and Clinton's 70's freaky funk while also exploring mellower jazz and the grooves of hip-hop. He has performed or recorded with Ray Charles, Ani Difranco, James Taylor, De La Soul, Dave Matthews Band and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and has released several CDs of his own, including his groundbreaking Life on Planet Groove. His timeless sound has garnered him a new young fan base with his catch phrase being, "2% Jazz, 98% Funky Stuff," and his 8 piece band has been called "the tightest little funk orchestra on earth."
