One of the most influential violinists in modern music, Regina Carter presents her newest project, Southern Comfort. Also the name of her latest CD, (released in March 2014) the project is a transition from her previous exploration of her African ancestry (Reverse Thread) to her family history. She has traded the West African kora for a slide guitar and collected songs that recall her father’s roots in Alabama, creating a celebration of the joyous music that infused her early childhood, as well as becoming a vehicle to explore the complicated and sometimes difficult family histories, which are a part of Southern culture. Drawing from a diverse well of influences including classical, jazz, Motown, swing, funk, and world music among others, Carter is a “knockout violinist, who creates music that is wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent, and, at times, breathtakingly daring...taking the listener into the future of jazz” (Time Magazine). With Marvin Sewell, guitar; Will Holshouser, accordion; Chris Lightcap, bass; and Alvester Garnett, drums.
