Durand Open Space was once home to Westernair Inc., an airplane maintenance business once owned by the Durand family. Small planes flew in for anything from engine repairs to paint jobs to reupholstery work. Today, the property commemorates more natural airborne creatures, birds.
This year, Bernalillo County Open Space is working with a number of partners to organize a fun-filled family event celebrating both birds and planes at Durand Open Space. There will be a number of exciting things happening both on the ground and in the air include the following:
_Guided bird walks
_Birding 101 tips and tricks
_Model plane demonstrations
_Birds of a Feather kid’s activities
_Live birds of prey
This event is organized in partnership with the New Mexico Ornithological Society and Central New Mexico Audubon Society. For more information, visit www.bernco.gov/openspace, or call Bernco Open Space Program Coordinator Colleen Langan-McRoberts at 505-314-0398
