Mark Votapek, solo cello
Formerly with the St. Louis and Honolulu symphonies, Mark Votapek is currently an assistant professor of cello at the University of Arizona. He maintains annual appearances as teacher and performer at Indiana University’s Summer Festival, and as a member of Ebb and Flow Arts new music ensemble and of Pacific International Concert Artists. John Milbauer will be accompanying Voltapek on piano.
The musical program will include Beethoven’s Seven Variations on a Theme from Mozart's "The Magic Flute,” Johannes Brahms’ Ballade in D Minor Opus 1 No 1, Excerpts from "Mon Cirque" by Paul Tortelier, and Largo and Finale from Sonata in D Minor Opus 58 by Mendelssohn.
The poet this week is Gary Jackson. “Missing You, Metropolis,” which won the Cave Canem Poetry Prize, is his first book published, however, he has had other works published in “inscape,” “Literary Bohemian,” “Magma,” and others. He received his Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico.
Sunday Chatter Admission prices are $15 regular, $9 for those under 30, and $5 for children under 12, available at the door. The Frequent Attender Pass gives patrons 11 admissions for the price of 10 and can be purchased at the Chatter website, www.sundaychatter.org.
