THE ART OF FIGHTING is a unique collaboration, combining a full art gallery show with a video game competition. This event will be driven by those with a passion for creativity, community, charity, and the competitive spirit. The two-day event begins Friday, September 27th, with a charity art gallery show and sale*, featuring work by artists from New Mexico and around the country inspired by classic arcade fighting games, such as STREET FIGHTER, MARVEL VS. CAPCOM, TEKKEN, MORTAL KOMBAT, SOULCALIBUR, THE KING OF FIGHTERS, and many more. Then, on Saturday, September 28th, test your skills against other dedicated players in a day-long, double-elimination video game tournament, featuring SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV: ARCADE EDITION V.1012, ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3, TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2, and INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US. We'll be streaming LIVE at twitch.tv/nmism, and top finishers will earn some awesome prizes provided by CAPCOM USA, SEGA OF AMERICA, BROKENTIER, and Albuquerque's own GAMERS ANONYMOUS! Plus, a special charity vs. charity VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 FINAL SHOWDOWNexhibition match!
This event represents a personal mission, as proceeds from the sale of art and tournament entry will benefit the MARCH OF DIMES NEW MEXICO CHAPTER and the SAVE BABIES THROUGH SCREENING FOUNDATION, two charities working toward saving the lives of newborns diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defects (or CHDs). CHDs are the most common birth defect, affecting 1 of 100 infants born. Some children are treated and struggle with symptoms daily; for others, they can be fatal within hours, days, or weeks after birth if left undiagnosed. THE ART OF FIGHTING wishes to benefit these children by increasing awareness, funding legislation that will make screening mandatory in New Mexico, and helping kids who are fighting to live happy, healthy lives.
It all starts FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH AT 6:00 PM with the art gallery opening at METROPOLIS COMIC ART GALLERY, at 1102 Mountain Rd. NW, Suite 202 (11th St. & Mountain Rd.) in Downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. The opening is open to the public, and food and entertainment will be provided.
On SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH AT 12:00 PM (also at METROPOLIS), entry and registration will begin for the fighting game tournament, with preliminary matches to start at 2:00 PM. Entry for the tournament is$5.00 per game, or $15.00 for all four games. Participants should try to provide their own controllers or FightSticks (games will be played on PlayStation 3; wireless controllers are NOT allowed). The Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown exhibition will take place before the final rounds of the tournament, as preliminary and semi-final matches wrap up.
*The art show will NOT be judged
