A former Ray Charles "Raelette," Tracey Whitney has had a successful career as a singer/songwriter with her trademark silky jazz-soul fusion. Her smooth sound, jazz/pop instincts, and soulful sensibility are highlighted by her natural ease behind the microphone. She has released two solo albums to critical acclaim on her Babydoll Entertainment label. Tonight, Whitney is joined by Sid Fendley, piano; Colin Deuble, bass; and Larry McClure, drums. An ever-evolving project headed by Santa Fe-based jazz trumpeter J.Q. Whitcomb and flamenco guitarist and vocalist, Joaquin Gallegos, Tierra Sonikete, as they describe it, "combines the subtlety and sophistication of Jazz with the brain-bending rhythmic syncopation of Flamenco." Approaching Flamenco-Jazz from all directions, Jazz harmonies and instrumentation are combined with Flamenco; choice jazz standards are given flamenco rhythmic treatments; original compositions incorporate all the elements; and a few Brazilian grooves are mixed in. It's J.Q. Whitcomb, trumpet and palmas; Joaquin Gallegos, guitar and vocals; Asher Barreras, upright bass and palmas, plus other guests TBA.
