Warrior Woman, the latest work of local filmmaker Julie Reichert, is having its debut screening at The Guild Cinema, January 19, 20 and 21 (Sat., Sun. and Mon.) at 7pm.
Warrior Woman tells a story of healing beyond physical recovery. Alice (played by Karen Young), a teacher, has survived breast cancer, but her marriage and finances are falling apart and she is tormented by vivid, disturbing dreams. Emotionally raw, she feels compelled to protect her student Thuy from an abusive husband. Alice and Thuy drive into the desert, destination unknown, but when Alice’s decrepit car dies, the real journey for both women begins. Alice discovers that emotional healing has a different timetable than physical
Julie Reichert, film writer, producer and director, and Eleanor Schick, Coordinator of Support Services for Cancer Support Now, Inc. will be at the January 20 to speak and answer questions. On all other nights, Reichert and other cast and crew members will be available for questions after each screening. DVDs will be offered to ticket holders for the discounted price of $5 each (one DVD per person.)
A gift basket from Betty's Bath and Day Spa will be auctioned off each screening evening.
On January 20, half of admission proceeds will go to Cancer Support Now, Inc., a membership-based nonprofit organization created by cancer survivors and their families and friends. The group provides one-on-one and/or group support for anyone whose life has been affected by cancer.
