Envisioned by Artistic Director Joaquin Encinias, Encuentros is the result of an American adaptation of the art form ‘encountering’ international culture and ideas brought forth by world renowned flamenco masters. Through the University of New Mexico’s permanent flamenco visiting line, Yjastros gained over 100 hours of training under famed international choreographers, Mercedes “La Winy” Amaya (Mexico), Concha Jareño (Spain) and Carmen “La Talegona” (Spain). This brilliant performance is comprised of original company works as well as four new choreographies created exclusively for Yjastros, including flamenco classics such as: Martinete and Jaleo by Mercedes “La Winy” Amaya, Farruca by Carmen “La Talegona”, and Cantiñas (Bata de Cola) by Concha Jareño.
The Showings will be April 4th at 7:00pm, and April 5th and 6th at 8:00pm. Tickets are $15, $25, $35, and $45.
