Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

Okay, not me so much, actually my brother needs a vet for his cat...when I lived here several years ago I had a wonderful DVM who made house calls, but I cannot for the life of me remember who he was ... Dr. something-with-an-M and a British accent. We've all had some pretty hideous experiences with vets (and some good) and are looking for a good, inexpensive, kind, compassionate cat Dr. who is not about the dollar and not about lots of unnecessary tests and meds. Any recommendations? Thank you oh-so.

I'm fond of Dr. Fletcher at Aztec Animal Clinic. She's been working with a cat of mine with a chronic allergy problem and has taken a very common sense approach to managing it. Considering all of the oddball health problems my cats have managed to come up with, I've been happy with their care at the clinic and particularly with Dr. Fletcher's compassionate and intelligent approach.

Ditto on Dr. Fletcher. She's taken great care of our pups. Upon meeting her, I felt I could trust her as a doc... I found her to be kind, insightful, and straightforward.

The mobile vet is Paul Malin. He should be in the under something like Albuquerque Mobile Veterinary Clinic.

It's Albuquerque Veterinary Housecall Practice - 247-9000. Dr Malin has been my vet for years, my cat doesn't even know what a vet's office is.

Is Paul Malin an elderly guy?

We just switched vets, from VCA (Wyoming branch) to Blue Cross Animal Clinic, on Carlisle just south of Indian School. Or maybe that's Constitution... Anyway, I can't say how pleasant our experience has been with them, especially in contrast with VCA. They're very friendly and nonjudgmental and understanding of not-so-well-behaved animals. And affordable.

we see dr. terry wheeler at blue cross on carlisle and think she's wonderful. she always takes the time to make our animals (a dog and a cat) as calm and comfy as possible. the staff are super friendly and we've been able to get appointments the same day or at least within a day if one of our girls is sick. they give good, reassuring advice over the phone, if you're not sure an appointment is entirely warranted. plus, they're open on saturdays, which we really appreciate.

Dr. Wheeler is THE BEST. She is just fantastic. I have so many stories of how she has helped out our pets, and money isn't her first concern, the welfare of your pets are, I can account for that myself. I have taken 10 cats at once to see her and she didn't even blink an eye! The staff there knows how to handle animals with anxiety problems, and it's absolutely second nature to them.

In a pinch for emergency care, we go to Petroglyph Animal Hospital on the Westside. They are also wonderful.

VCA is the worst, IMHO. They're just a bunch of money-hungry, greedy, should-have-been-investment bankers.

Have had good experiences with both Dr Whaley at Manzano Animal Clinic in the NE and, like others, Dr Fletcher at Aztec Animal Clinic in the SE. I especially appreciated the second pair of hands they provide at Aztec since our Lizzy is not the cooperative sort.

Has saved a few of my animals - and they have a low-income program! Dr's Maurice & Catherine Johnson. Dr. Maurice Johnson - very nice man - has saved -literally- 2 of my animals w/out all the expensive stuff - took some nursing on my part - but that's ok. Have been taking my animals there for 10+ yrs.
just east of San Mateo & 2 (3?) blks Sth of Montgomery.

Albuquerque Cat Clinic is the best! They just do cats and are super friendly. They always respect your choice as a cat owner, and give you options- not just expensive recommendations.

No dogs at vet is a plus- as my cats are scared of them.

I second ABQ Cat Clinic - Having no other animals treated there is a plus for sure - The visits are much calmer for our little furries.

Also after extensive vet work on our fuzzy Dr. Thundertoes (RIP) , Emily Walker made a donation in his name to the Cornell U. of Cat Vet research , which I felt was very thoughtfull!
