I am at the point that I need to be able to get into and manipulate PDF files that are sent to me. Adobe Acrobat Standard claims I will able to save PDFs as word documents or excel spreadsheet and edit them then turn them back into PDFs. The program costs $299 so would like to get opinions from others who have used it before shelling out the money. Does anyone out there know anything about this?

OpenOffice can do all of that and it's free.
If I down load that suite of programs how well do they work with Office?
I use it exclusively when dealing with Office-generated documents without a hitch. YMMV of course.

OpenOffice has been improved and given a new name. It's been renamed LibreOffice loads faster and so on. I loaded a pdf file and could edit the pdf file. It can make pdf files too.
