All you wanted to know about Dog or Cat Food! Open Q&A!

Man my holidays were nutty-buddy so I'm super-duper sorry it's taken me soooooooo long to drop a line or two on my beloved DCF!

So, HELLO DCF!!!

It's a new year, and as usual, most of us are worrying about our waistlines that go just a little bit bigger over the holidays thanks to mom's cooking or an extra couple of cookies here and there. Don't forget you four legged buddy's waist line too! Put simply, start the new year off right with good nutrition for your pets!!!

I'm opening the floor here to any questions you may have about your dog or cat's diet. Wanna know what this whole RAW food thing is about? ASK!! Kibble vs Canned?? ASK!! Problems with allergies? ASK!! Wanna know why when your dog farts it smells like it could strip the paint off the walls?? ASK!! Got a new puppy or kitty for the holidays--wanna know what to feed it? ASK!!

Most of you pets health issues can be solved just by simply feeding a healthier food!

I'm new to DCF and BWB - so happy to find you! And what a timely topic. I've been wondering about raw foods and sure could use any advice on allergies.

We just adopted a sweet little mixed breed rescue dog with allergies (itchy red ears and butt), but none of the vet's suggestions has helped yet -- changed to specialty-store dog food with no gluten or corn, Benadryl, then Claritin, flushing out her ears twice a day.

We'll only vaccinate her when it's required by Abq, but at 1 1/2 years old, she's probably had plenty already. She'll be back to the vet for visit #3 next week, but I'm losing faith. Any ideas?

Oh poor itchy puppy!!

With itchy ears and tushie it sounds like a food allergy. Grains like corn, wheat and soy tend to be the top contibutors to allergies in dogs. Beef is usually the top protein allergy in dogs. I suggest a good hollistic dog food like Solid Gold or Innova. Neither have corn, wheat or soy...in fact NONE of the dog food i carry have those three grains for oh so many reasons!! Solid Gold has been around for over 30 years and was the first hollistic dog food on the market. Innova is a wonderful food which is formulated to include all of the 5 basic food groups. All of the dog foods in the store have been mentioned by the Whole Dog Journal's top 20 dog foods. Once you get the allergies settled (hopefully it's just a food thing) there will be no need for Benadryl or Claritin OR the ear flushing which i bet she hates!

RAW is great but it takes commitment!! The benefits are numorous including healthy teeth and coat. But if you're only worries about allergies you don't need to start puppy on a RAW diet. BUT to make your life easier, we do carry Nature Varities' RAW food. It's basically raw kibble and includes veggies and healthy grains with the protein. It's a well balanced diet all on it's own which means you don't have to formulate the diet yourself. It's RAW made easy. Just remember, once you start a dog on the RAW diet it's hard to get them off of it. er...GROSS poops....for awhile....
