Hi all - I got asked a question from a friend in Portland, OR: do you have a recommendation for a really good quality New Mexican red chile powder? Looking for a vendor who will ship. A truly delicious white bean & chicken chili lies in the balance.

I'm not a cook, so I have no good answers for this ... can anyone help? thanks! Michael

I prefer Chimayo red chile, which I usually buy at El Potrero Trading Post when I travel up north. I spent a few minutes searching for an online source, and it is surprisingly hard to find. I did find this one link, but I can't vouch for the merchant.

While searching, I found the Chimayo Chile Man, which I will definitely visit on my next trip!

I second Chimayo. Hands down. Completely distinctive flavor, can't be beat.

A third vote for Chimayo, several companies putting it out all good...

Another vote here for Chimayo. Not sure about a vendor that would ship, though.

Yup, Chimayo all the way. Check the Fruit Basket, they might ship.

If your friend is following a recipe, it might be wise to start with half the suggested amount. There's a world of difference between Chimayo red chile and your everyday grocery store shelf "chili powder".

That stuff we buy from Mary + Tito's is pretty good... don't know where it's from. Don't know about shipping.

Thank you everyone!

Easy to stick in an envelope and ship. I like the Chimayo powder with the white label and blue print. You can get it anywhere. The guy on Broadway and Mountain, just down and across the street from the main Post Office mails chile. He has powdered green chile too, which is interesting.

I was thumbing through New Mexico magazine this afternoon and came across an ad for Chimayo To Go. They have red chile powder.

I don't understand why this is still being pondered. The Chile Konnection on Broadway near the main Post Office has and mails chile everywhere.
