I thought the bike trail to the park was supposed to have been finished last year? I biked up that way last weekend for the Scottish Fest and it was the same as ever. Bike trail closed at Paseo (I think?) and you have to do some weird maneuvering to get to the Park.

It looks like everything is done except for about 20 feet, which hasn't been done for about 3 years now. What's the scoop?

Not sure if something new has been done, but we biked to Balloon Fiesta Park from UNM several times between Christmas vacation and mid-April. Crossing Paseo from the diversion channel trail involves crossing at a light about 1/2 block away from the trail, but other than that it is (was) pretty smooth sailing.

I get some of the roads up there confused, as I don't go that way too often.

I know one place where the trail veers west to cross at a light and then returns to its regular route.

Do you have to go east at Paseo to do what you described?

When I got there, the bridge under Paseo was closed and the Paseo trail went west. I took it to Edith and follow Edith to Alameda, where I doubled back. Maybe it connects to the east and I didn't notice that?

From what I remember, head west toward the first light on Paseo (the Lighting store is on the SW corner). Cross at the light then immediately turn right and the trail picks up once again and heads north.

That doesn't sound anything like what I remember. Either I'm wildly confused, or that's not Paseo we are talking about.

there's a lighting store on the sw corner of osuna and chappell....

That's what I thought was being described (though I never noticed the store).

I've got the Osuna crossing down. It works like described above. But then you get to Paseo and the trail is closed (or my hallucinations start!)

Maybe this post can shine a light?

I remember that post. That was where I learned the trail was open. But the dip under Paseo had a Detour sign posted on it and was closed, which is what I had always found in the past.

They are extending the bike path under Alameda so it will go all the way to the Balloon Park with out having to cross the road. They have temporary closed the path at Paseo while the new section is under construction.

Thanks Jon!

Seems like I managed to miss the window when the new section was open and got confused.

I look forward to eventually biking all the way to the park on the trail!
