Okay, so part of the deal with Locksley was his recruiting prowess - and maybe there was a slight upgrade in player quality for the Lobos, but his (lack of) coaching basically crashed the program. So maybe more than a few of us were surprised when he got a new job as offensive coordinator for Maryland - but he did just score a major coup d'état - from SI: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/football/ncaa/02/10/diggs.riv... Amazing what you can do close to your home base....

Permalink Reply by Matt Barth on February 13, 2012 at 9:34am Ya but don't forget Locksley had a few shocking recruits here. The 4 or 5 star offensive linemen who came to UNM instead of Alabama (and thus lost a shot at the national championship). Everyone said Locksley could recruit and even now players like Holbrook say they are disappointed he's gone even with a 2 win total record. I don't know what he said to the kids but he certainly had a silver tongue.
As for Maryland, his primary contacts are in the DC/Maryland area and there's always hope that a bad coach can still be the miracle coordinator like at Illinois.
I still say good riddance.
