Is it me or are the flies worse this year than usual?

Funny I was just thinking the same thing. I opened up my screen door for like five minutes and the house is buzzing now.
It's State Fair time in new Mexico!!
@cathyray. That's what I was thinking, too.
Late rains + State Fair approaching = fliesaplenty
No, not more flies than ususal. This is August and it's time for the summer rains. Rain means puddles of water. Puddles equals fly nurseries.

Here's my question - especially for those born in burque: what happened to our frogs? I remember that during this time of year all those puddles (now filled with flies) also had frogs who dined on them. I remember the valley had frog choruses everywhere at night. Something bad is happening with Albuquerque loosing all its frogs. So far I've only seen one hold out in my mom's garden and he seems rather lonely.

So yes, the flies abound but its not because of the State Fair. Its that we have lost our frogs.

My, my, what to do, what to do :(
Roundup. Roundup is killing the frogs.
The frogs are ALL over the bosque near Barelas and Tingley Beach. We've seen plenty of toads around Barelas too. But maybe our dogs are just adept at finding them?
Dropping science is much appreciated, thanks.

Good point, Rudolfo - I should have been more specific. The frogs are all over the bosque near the rio and the streams and ponds. The toads are in my front yard.
Oh, no offense taken. I just realized after reading your post that I wasn't as clear as one might expect a bio major (UG) to be. ;)
I agree that Roundup is likely killing the frogs and other critters. Monsanto must die.

Regarding local conditions: I am in Taos often, and the flies there are unusually prevalent this year....so it's not just ABQ.
