Hi, if I don't want to go to the Balloon Fiesta park or Sandia Casino, where are some good places around town (especially NE Heights) from which to see the fireworks on July 4?

I tried walking up into the foothills once- figured I'd get on one of those boulders and enjoy the panaramic view.  On my way up was the first time I ever encountered a rattlesnake.  Fortunately its warning stopped me in my tracks before anything bad happened- back down the path we went.  Perhaps riding the Tram would be better.

my husband usually gets on top of the roof and watches to his frugal delight.

we live in the heights and he's able to see the balloon fiesta, rio rancho and various other

displays.

we rode the tram one year and it was a big disappointment (fireworks-wise, the tram itself is always awesome.) once you're up at that elevation, you see tiny little explosions way off in the distance and you lose all the "ooh! aah!" grandeur of a good fireworks show.

these days we mostly watch the isotopes fireworks from our driveway, when they have a home game on the 4th--which they do this year. (I just got an email that the berm tickets for that are on sale for $9, if you're interested in a game along with your fireworks.) when I was a kid, we used to pack a cooler and head over to bullhead park and watch the show at kirtland. I don't know if they still do a show, but it might be worth finding out, if you can figure out who to call.

This is a little late, but I'll add my 2 cents for next year.  For the past couple of years we've just driven to somewhere off Louisiana in the far NE heights, parked on the side of the road, and watched from there.  You need to be on a major east-west road, otherwise you'll get trees and houses obscuring your view.  This year we parked on Louisiana at Alameda.  Louisiana anywhere north of Modesto would probably also work, as there are no houses/buildings to the west of Louisiana along here. (Use satellite view in Google maps to check.)  We got to our location around 8:30 and snagged one of the last parking spots in that block.  Plenty of space off the side of the road to set up blankets and chairs (although on a moderate slope).  Seems like everyone in town had roughly the same idea, because the drive back home was pretty slow!
