Our friends at Dixon's Apple Orchard were recently devastated by the Las Conchas Wildfire. Thankfully, no one was injured and the old orchard was spared. But their family home was destroyed, along with several storage facilities and essential equipment. The fire, combined with the near complete loss of this year's crop due to frost, have made for a catastrophic year for the Mullane family.

Dixon’s has put countless smiles on the faces of generations of New Mexicans. Being a state trust land, the orchard earns money for public schools, universities and hospitals. As their friends, neighbors and customers, we’re grateful for all they've given us and want to give something back. To that end, we designed a commemorative t-shirt. 100% of your purchase will go towards getting the family back on their feet.

I love this place..and they have been hit especially hard this year.  The hard winter wiped out much of their crop (i.e. livelihood) for 2011 and then this fire burnt down half their house and threatens future crops...

I'll happily spare $50 this year to eat apples next year :)

Apparently there's a benefit for them tomorrow night.  In today's Albuq. Journal Venue section, p. 3:

"No truth to rumor that Thor played one

Russell Cook builds and performs on hammer dulcimers.  While the instrument is not widely known, the musician will showcase it during a performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy NE."

"The perfomance is free, yet donations are accepted.  Proceeds from the concert will be donated to Dixon's Apple Orchard, which was partially damaged in the Las Conchas Fire."

I love hammer dulcimer when John McCutcheon plays it!  Couldn't find this on the web anywhere.
