I just read on FB that Jim Villanucci's contract was up yesterday, (2/28) and it was not renewed after 14 years on the 3-7 PM slot on KKOB Radio.  I thought he had very high ratings so this is puzzling to me.  Any inside scoop on this?

ell, he's gonna have to move again...and I know he likes it here. There is certainly no other station that can afford him.

Now Villanucci knows how Larry Ahrens felt when his contract wasn't renewed 14 years ago.

KOB could up its listenership with more balanced programming. I know people who won't tune in to sports on that station because of the daytime programming.

Like it or not, they have the highest rated 2 talk shows in the country. Just from a business perspective, they would be nuts to change the lineup. They would actually lose listeners. Progressive radio has not been successful anywhere (other than NPR, which doesn't have to make money). Radio is most certainly business...as this story proves...it's a cut throat one.

Nucci ans his callers got very stale over the last few years. Past time for a change.

Villanucci was far from stale. In fact, as conservative talkers go, he's far more open-minded and fair with his callers and guests. He even admits when he's wrong (about Bush's Weapons of Mass Destruction reason for war, for example). If this is a business decision, I don't know what business sense it makes. Villanucci likes the city and was good for the city and will be missed, even by progressives.

This is because Jim isn't a party guy...he's actually a Libertarian.

Dan - my comment had nothing to do with his style or political leanings. I liked his open-minded attitude. NOT just another Rush clone.

But he sounded very tired of the same callers and bone headed 'discussions' that seemed to pervade the show the last few years. I would listen for about 5 minutes and get bored.
