We make King Cakes at House of Bread on Carlisle, with lots of colored sugar icing and a baby inside. We usually start the Saturday before Fat Tuesday. It's a good idea to order one if you want to make sure of getting one.

ABC Cakes on San Pedro makes a great King Cake, babies and all. They make a lot of them too.

House of Bread on Carlisle, just south of I-40 will have Mardi Gras King Cakes, in addition to 25 different premium breads, muffins, scones and box sandwich lunches. 266-0622

Hi everyone! I wanted to give you an update! Since most of your suggestions directed me towards La Quiche Parisienne at Fourth and Copper, I decided to contact them for a delicious king cake for Fat Tuesday.

I had emailed them asking for a quote and availability last week. I received a voicemail on Monday from one of the owners & the baker, whose French accent was so thick I had to listed to it a couple of times to realize he was confirming my order and telling me what time to pick it up. I picked it up just after 8 tuesday morning, assisted by the other owner who was a very lovely woman. I also got myself a cup of coffee while there - it was DELICIOUS and robust!

I brought the cake in to my office, and we were all overjoyed with it! It was SO GOOD! My boss got the piece with the king in it, and took the crown (provided by the bakery). Overall, it was totally worth it! A great experience!

I highly recommend getting your cake from them next year! (or next week! YUM!)

That looks delicious, though very different from the the oval king cakes with purple, gold, and green sugar I'm used to seeing. Was there a filling inside?

I'm told this is a traditional French king cake. If you google image search "french king cake" they all look very similar.

It had a really yummy almost custard like filling. We couldn't decide if it was almond or not. Either way, it was DELICIOUS! The dough, the filling, everything about it!

Awesome! I'll definitely have to try that version. Looks like the filling was probably Frangipane. I think I know what my birthday cake is going to be this summer.
