At a time when much of the Middle East and Southeast Asia is afflicted by turmoil and extremism, two Pakistani musicians are making music that shows a side of Pakistan rarely covered in US media. The group will do a short, stripped-down acoustic performance followed by an informal discussion looking at cultural, societal and political forces that counter extremism in Pakistan, and how the music of these young Pakistani women is playing a role in the changing times. As Pashtun women, Zeb and Haniya are not only defying a harsh political climate, but are breaking with traditional roles for women in Pakistan. Zeb and Haniya will be performing and presenting workshops at ¡Globalquerque!.
