I had a good laugh at Page 1 this afternoon while browsing in the cooking section. They have Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal" included on the top shelf cookbook display.

Actually, it's a guide to (the English rich) eating someone else's (the Irish poor's) young. Maybe they should send it to Andre Bauer, who is running for Governor of S. Carolina. It could encourage him to let the poor children keep having free school lunches.

Wkipedia says: "A Modest Proposal: For Preventing the Children of Poor People in Ireland from Being a Burden to Their Parents or Country, and for Making Them Beneficial to the Publick, commonly referred to as A Modest Proposal, is a Juvenalian satirical essay written and published anonymously by Jonathan Swift in 1729. Swift appears to suggest in his essay that the impoverished Irish might ease their economic troubles by selling children as food for rich gentlemen and ladies. By doing this he mocks the authority of the British officials."

Thanks for making me learn something new and interesting

One time at a former job I was developing a web application that allowed users to upload Word documents to go along with the rest of their submission. During testing I uploaded a bunch of documents like the Declaration of Independence and some famous essays.

During user acceptance one of the users sent me a really angry bug report about A Modest Proposal being in there. It demanded that I delete the document because it was offensive.

I spent the whole morning laughing.
