So today I get a notice from PNM telling me I am using 81% more energy than my apparently green neighbors. I go next door to see if my neighbor uses 81% less than I do. Actually they use more. I then proceed to go to

I enter the information hit enter and find that I'm using about what would be expected for the information I enter. So whats the deal? Does anyone have any idea of what PNM is up to with this BS "informative" letter. They claim to be using 100 homes in a 1/10th mile radius. How can it be that my neighbor and I use a normal amount and apparently no one else uses any?

However they're calculating this, PNM is clearly using some of the new marketing strategy known as shame. It's actually surprisingly effective at getting folks to change their behaviors, and you may have seen it during this last election (mailers went out saying how frequently your neighbors vote).
