It isnt surprising that there are many questions surrounding the most recent APD involved shooting. The department seems to be "tight lipped" about providing us with information.  This makes APD seem suspicious and secretive with the divulging of the facts.  Not something the populace of Albuquerque wants.

It appears the victim, Christopher Torres, was mentally ill and had previously been arrested.  Having a warrant for the man's arrest, the two dectives went to the home, found him in the backyard, and proceeded to handcuff him while he was on the ground.  Under these circumstances, there was a brawl and the victim somehow was able to get ahold of one of the officer's gun and then shot by the other officer.

Is this another "suicide by cop" scenario?  Where the officers aware that the suspect was mentally ill?  If not, should they have known this information upon serving the warrant?  How was the victim able to obtain one of the officer's gun?  Why were there so many responders including the SWAT team and the Bomb Squad? Sounds somewhat overreactive to me.

It appears that the family has hired a private investigator to look into the case.

One report said the warrant was being served by officers of the NE command.  I can only guess this is because the warrant stems from a traffic incident in the NE command.  Torres lives in the NW command and it would have been the NW command that responded to the Garcias restaurant incident.  I can only wonder if the warrant had been forwarded to the NW command for service would there have been a different outcome as the NW command might have been more "aware" of Torres.
Hunter, that's a great piece of information and maybe a different outcome would have happened if the NW command served the warrant.  Nonetheless, its a tragic situation.
