Recycling: can we start putting glass in the city recycling containers?

I thought I read somewhere that they're accepting glass now...

Doesn't look like it, even if you have one of the blue bins:

God, I want one of those bins...

Although the list of stuff that can be put in the new bins is impressive, and includes far more items than the bagged recycling, glass is still out:

Glass Is Prohibited - Please DO NOT put glass in your cart

At this time, glass is not accepted as part of our "Curbside Recycling Pilot Program." However, glass jars, beer and wine bottles, baby food jars, and salad dressing jars can be taken to one of our 14 recycling drop-off sites. Find the most convenient sites for you!

This place will sell and ship you very own recycling bin with wheels  cost $210 plus shipping.

But will they pick it up if you are not in the pilot area zones? I doubt it. The trucks that come down my street I don't think have the mechanism to lift the bins and dump into the truck. And if its done by hand, they will not take containers larger than 20 gallons.

Plus, its $210! I expect the blue bins will be city-wide in not too long. In the meantime, its a little agonizing for those just outside the zone. I can SEE blue bins from my house, but I can't have any!

No, they won't pick it up outside the pilot program area according to the information from ABCWUA @ the link in Phil's post.  They will only pick up stuff stored in ABCWUA issued bins.
