For reasons too complicated to go into, I'm going to have to board the pooch in a few weeks. Where do you board your pets when you have to board them as opposed to getting a sitter?

Friends of ours use Bolton Animal Hospital on Girard near Gibson. We've always had a house sitter.

A month or so ago we boarded our dog for one night/two days at the Canine Country Club up on north 4th. I was totally impressed. They have a great facility, staff, and just overall really had their act together. My favorite part were the daily report cards they sent home--so cute! The report cards were actually fairly informative in terms of how he played with other dogs, whether he ate well, whether he ate treats, etc.

We were nervous as our dog had never been boarded and while otherwise a perfect, well-adjusted dog, has pretty serious separation anxiety. But we were going out of town with our dog-sitter guy, so we didn't have any other options. I was really relieved and happy to find a good place and now know boarding is an option for our dear pup.

As an aside, Cody got his boardatella (sp?) vaccine today, which involves a squirt up the nose, and has been sneezing ever since. Sneezing pet = impossibly cute.

I have used the country club but i just toured Camp Bow Wow and it is perfect. They jsut opened (like a week a go) and everything is new. They are located behind thomasville furniture on Carsile (sp) and ask fro Erin who is the "camp director" i think. You wont be disspointed.

Sophie -- If the sitter option isn't totally off the table and you need recommendations, I have a *fabulous* woman who's taken excellent care of our critters. The dogs get too stressed in a boarding environment, and it was amazing to come home to calm, happy pooches. Let me know if you (or anyone else reading!) want her info.

both owned and managed by the same person.

They're great. Great prices and great staff. I've used them many times for petsitting and doggy day care.

Canine Country Club has been a good option for our dog at times, and I like the indoor/outdoor rooms (our dog NEVER relieves himself indoors, and at other places where he can't go out, this is a problem). The only times when Pauly hasn't had a good time there is when their day care didn't have enough small dogs for him to romp with, as he is too small to play with the big guys. Then I think he was a bit lonely. But overall, they took great care of him.

If your dog doesn't have the indoor/outdoor problem, Petsmart Pethotel has been surprisingly good. It's a chain, obviously, so the service isn't as personal, but it's still pretty good, and they have lots of playing and treat options.

We've also had good luck with CCC. Our pooches loved the doggie ice cream treats!

I like it that you can pay extra for certain services at CCC. Like how are you gonna know if they really did those things? It does seem like a great set up, though.

Canine Country Club is a really good one.

Our dog was violently ill for 2 days after going to canine country club. So, we've started using the VCA on Montgomery near Eubank. They are really good about following specific instructions, walk her 3 times a day, and she can get shots updated or whatever while we are gone. Good luck!

We use CCC as well for our dog who has some behavioral issues that make it necessary to board him. They seem nice enough and the reportcards are terrific although may be more of a balm for anxious dog owners than a true account of the dog's experience. I think the services are overpriced but I am reluctant to change facilities since our dog seems to do just fine there. If our dog was more accommodating to change I would look for a less expensive option
