Hello. I'm just one of many authors and poets from around the country coming into Albuquerque next week for a couple of poetry readings - Nov. 3rd and 4th. I'm looking for suggestions on not to miss things to do/see, places to eat/drink. not too many of us will have cars, so walking distance of downtown area would be great.

Hi Michelle, What poetry readings are these? Dee

Hi Dee,
the first one is on Saturday the 3rd at the Box improv and performance space. we have fifteen authors/poets slotted to read that night... people coming in from california, pennsylvania, new york, ohio, illinois (that's me!), and more. sunday the 4th, we're headed to the Harwood Art Center where we have nine featured readers including several local authors (Richard Vargas, Elly Portnoy, John Macker and Kenneth P Gurney). there will be an open mic that night too as well as music from local band Good Green. if you want more information, you can find times, addresses, and bios on all the performers at http://theliteraryunderground.org/events
both events are free! :)

Yes, Adelita has steered you well. I haven't heard of these events before so thanks. I'll probably attend the one at the Harwood on Sunday and hope to meet you.. A visit to old town is a must- that's not far west on Central from downtown. And a visit to nob hill is a must- it's not far east on Central from downtown. Easy to catch a bus -go straight one way or the other for the two spots. Plus you'll meet folks at the events who will hang with you. Enjoy your stay in our very cool town. Bring a camera... D

Oh, there's also the Dia De Los Muertos Marigold Parade starting at 2 PM on Sunday in the South Valley- not that far from downtown.  D

Plenty of things to do around the Harwood - Museums, Old Town and great restaurants.  Check out Cocina Azul for great New Mexican food, or the Golden Crown Panederia for great bread and pizza.  Also, consider taking a Trolley tour.  If you can get to the University/Nob Hill area there are lots of great restaurants and shops.  Please go to the Frontier for cheap eats, great people watching and I guarantee some great inspiration for poetry!  Have fun while you're here!

oh, excellent! i'm definitely going to check out this parade. would love for you to come down to the event and meet you. i'm bringing some free broadsides and zines too. the last event we had was in oakland and it was a lot of fun.
Cocina Azul, check. that's going on the itinerary!! thank you both so much

A trip to the Biopark and Aquarium is also very cool and is just blocks from Harwood. You can catch a train from there that will take you to our wonderful zoo. The train runs along the river so you can get a feel for the beautiful Cottonwood forest that runs through our state.

You could rent bikes in Old Town and bike along the Bosque Recreation Trail which goes by Tingley Park, the Bio park and the Zoo.
