We are very excited about Goddess of Arno’s upcoming 17th Annual Halloween Balkan Bash on this Saturday, October 26th from 7-10:15pm! We will be hosting some special guest musicians at the bash including klezmer virtuoso Margot Leverett --PLUS ABQ’s exciting new  World Choir will perform during our 15 minute intermission and Margot will play with Goddess of Arno on select pieces in each set. Goddess of Arno will be playing many of our regular favorites from around the Balkans, in addition to featuring the music and dances of GREECE, some more advanced ‘non-taught’ dances in the second set, --PLUS a NEW DANCE that Barbara and Mary learned on their trip to TURKEY which is danced to the beautiful song “Heyamo.” It all takes places at Winning Coffee Company, located at 111 Harvard, SE, in Albuquerque (just south of Central Ave. near UNM). Celebrate Halloween Balkan-style with the exciting and exotic music of Albuquerque’s premier Balkan dance band GODDESS OF ARNO! Performing dance tunes and traditional songs from Greece, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Hungary –many in the Rom (Gypsy) style and language- the 8-piece ensemble accompanies beautiful solo and multi-part vocals with traditional ethnic string and percussion instruments as well as violin, guitar, saxophone, electric bass & accordion.  Folk-dancer (and skelton!) Patsy Gregory will give a “quick-teach” session to live music from 7:15-8pm and then she’ll lead the traditional folk dances on Winning’s great wood floor. You can dance your own dance – or just sit, relax and enjoy the music. The Halloween Balkan Bash will also feature Halloween decorations and a costume contest with prizes for the best costumes (costumes are optional, but highly encouraged). Admission is $5.00 at the door, kids 12 and under get in for free.  Goddess of Arno’s band personnel at The Bash:

Leanne Mennin–percussion (tupan, daide & doumbek) & vocals; Barbara Friedman–electric bass, Bulgarian & Macedonian tamburi & vocals; Beth Cohen–violin, guitar, Macedonian tambura & vocals; Randy Edmunds-guitar, Macedonian tambura & vocals; Jamie Edmunds-alto sax, accordion & vocals; Cherrymae Golston: Vocals; Mary Masuk-percussion; SPECIAL GUEST: Margot Leverett- clarinet and saxophone virtuoso.
