I was just thinking this morning I should have recorded that beat on my MP3 player for later practicing. Grrrr....can't remember it now!

Thanks for the tip; I'll check it out.

A good resource for learning some basic rhythms is a book called The New Conga Joy by Bill Mathews. It's annotated very well. Easy to see what you should be doing. I picked up my copy at Apple Mountain Music. I need to use my copy more!

Lesley and John: Now, that was a wonderful experience in Bataan Park this afternoon, and even exotic: after all, how often do you get to drum for hula hoopers! To say nothing of jousters and tai chi practioners. Say, did either of you retain that bsic beat whats-his-name taught us and told us to practice for hours? If so can you notate it for me (is there a notation for percussion?); its completely flown out of my head.

And thanks again, you guys, for the help you gave me is selecting my first drum; thanks to you I beleive I made a good choice.

That looks like a great drum! And with a bag too! X8 is a fabulous resource. Hmmmmm....maybe I should just buy my drum bag from them....NOW! :-)

I THOUGHT I joined the drumcircle group on yahoo, but I got another email today inviting me to join....AND I haven't gotten any notifications. When is the Bataan circle.....is that the park next to Walgreens at Lomas and Monte Vista?

Nice drum, Ken! You'll want to find some videos (X8, YouTube, etc.) on how to tune it. Look for Mali Weave.

I finally zeroed in on a 12inch Matahari from X8 and UPS assures me that it will be on my doorstep this Friday, ready to play. Locally, I repeatedly visited Grandama's, Apple Mountain and Guitar Center, none of them had a very wide selection compared to what I found on-line at Sageman, X8 and World Wide Drums; and X8 has a great selection of video and audio clips and a lot of info for beginners so that sort of led me in their direction. Now, I wonder what my next drum should be: perhaps back to Sageman. . . .

You guys going to Bataan Park this Sunday?

Cool! You will be happy with a Sageman. X8 is a great resource. But check out the Guitar Center too, and Apple Mountain Music too -- you can get your hands on some drums there as well.
Hmmmm....crystal drumming. That's something to think about.....
