I wanted to share my experience with you and my observations. I am determined that I can properly manage my fibromyalgia (if, in fact, that is what I have - but that is what I was told), and, over time, I think I can beat it.
It seems obvious that doctors are now resorting to a diagnosis of fibromyalgia when they can't determine the reasons for chronic pain. I agree with some of the posters here in this forum who say this is a long process, and fibromyalgia is a difficult diagnosis. My focus is not on the diagnosis, but rather what I can do about it. So, you won't be finding me dwelling on whether or not it is true or not that I have it. What I know is that I have been suffering constant pain, every day. Enough said.
I believe that my pain started after a terrible sledding accident, which left me with a large hematoma on my leg. Since that time, I have experienced terrible muscle and joint pain (in my mind related to the accident) on a daily basis, which I think is due to the toxins released from the hematoma as the blood resorbed. The resulting change in my routine due to the pain (which lasted over one month in a chair), I think, caused my body to go into a different mode, which allowed for toxin spread and deposit in my muscles and joints. Then, since my defenses were low and couldn't get the proper nutrition so my body worked well, it has gotten worse with each passing year (9 years now).
In that time, I experienced great relief through acupuncture, but mostly as a pain management modality (my fault for not exploring further what can be done, since I now know that acupuncture helps my mental attitude as well, which goes a long way in relieving the pain - not sure why at this point, and don't care, I have relief).
I am a very meticulous person when it comes to research, so, as I have investigated my own symptoms and those things that can cause it, I have discovered, for myself, that a great deal of the problem has been in three areas, which I am now experiencing successful decrease in pain due to my addressing it:
1) My Nutrition - we do not have available to us those foods that have the proper nutrition, so whole food supplements, when you know which ones you should be taking, are part of the routine. Homeopathic drops have triggered my brain to respond as well, which allows my body to work right.
2) My Physical Self - my physical body has to perform properly in order to respond to modalities I employ, so I have regular acupuncture – to manage pain and open channels so my body can get the nutrition to where it needs to go without blockage.
3) My Mental Attitude - when I act on taking care of the two prior points, and my attitude is positive because I have done the proper research, I feel more relief for longer periods. I am so convinced that what I am doing is working that my attitude toward it makes me feel better as well.
If we think about it, our body is a phenomenal machine that operates without our thinking about it. Not given the proper nutrition, however, it can't function the way it should. So, where it would normally be able to manage certain problems, it now can't. We live in a society that processes everything and is chemical dependent - even in the drugs they give us to "manage" our fibromyalgia. For me, pharmaceuticals are not an option, and I find my pain is managed just fine without them, now that I know have educated myself.
You should educate yourself as much as you can. Talk to others who are also educated,find out what positive things work for them, and don’t dwell on the negatives so much. I have experienced incredible success, and now feel I am on the incline to permanent relief as opposed the decline of chronic symptoms. I am not as depressed, and I know why.
This post is already too long, and I'm sorry, but, if any would like to talk about these things, I want to form a group that focuses on understanding the root causes and how to manage it naturally. I am not interested in pharmaceuticals, so, if you are that person, this group won't be for you.
Let me know if you are interested, and, if no one is, then I will gladly start to post those things that work for me, but I am not everyone, and so just one case study.
If doctor's are so remiss to address Fibromyalgia, why do we depend on them to give us medications? It seems that, if they are unfamiliar with the condition, then how would they know what to prescribe?
I prefer to use natural methods, that, if one has knowledge of themself, and can work with someone else who listens, and has integrative options available to them, and will spend the time knowing YOU, the results are markedly better. And no need for chemical toxins which may actually make us worse.
Know the state of your health, then treat those deficiencies first. You'll find that your nutrition plays a large roll in your overall health, which can clearly expose where the real areas of concern are with fibro...

So, I thought I would share this...
Dr. Collins, our acupuncturist, had a session today with someone who was really struggling with, and needed relief from, their symptoms of fibro. Their whole body ached and movement just looked painful as they moved about. Just the removal of their shoes seemed to cause discomfort.
They wanted relief, so Dr. Collins needled 10 points, some to deal with overall problems, others to deal with the pain, and still others to focus on calming.
What a difference as they got up! After about 45 minutes of just letting them rest, falling in and out of sleep, while the needles did their work, we let them naturally "come out of it" and choose to get up on their own. Wow! Such benefit. They really felt good, were more relaxed, and the tenderness and achiness had gone away. I even got a hug, and I didn't even do anything.
Dr. Collins is very sensitive to people's pain, and doesn't discount their complaints. He really helped them out today, and it was a joy to watch.
Just thought I'd share...
It should be noted this isn't going to happen with everyone. I know some people are more responsive then others to acupuncture. I definitely am and immediately see results. Others not so. Our job is to find what works for you, whether nutritionally, through acupuncture, or all of the above. My suggestion is... you should at least find out if you are, so you can have relief.

Hi, the information on this site is very helpful. I began presenting with fibromyalgia about 17 years ago. Only here in Albuquerque did I get diagnosed by my DOM with Microplasma Pneumoniae and Chlamydia Pneumoniae. I had two types of walking pneumoniae as one of you mentioned. I got rid of it with the R.I.F.E so check if your NP, or DOM has the machine. It was a process but painless and affordable.
I now use meditation and hypnotherapy for calm mind and releasing emotions that caused the illness to begin with . Fibromyalgia and many other related issues are caused by emotions which when not tapped into weaken the system and make us prone to many viruses and infections.
I am now a certified hypnotherapist I run a ADD/ADHD group but it is there to share alternative interventions with those that may not know. I was with an environmental center in Canada for a few years and then began the journey of healing with integrative medicine. In the group we use meditation and hypnosis as a practice and then have guest speakers come in to share what they know and how it works to alleviate stress, depressions of many kinds, anxiety which has an intimate link with enviromental illnesses and attention deficit problems, therefore we educate share and learn mindfulness practices like chi gung, breathwork. and Gurdjieffian meditation practices.
I am a student of psychology and art and I study the brain and body, learning and memory, largely due to the journey I have with my own health.
I no longer suffer from fibro, the symptoms don't come back, and when they present it is only when I have really over done the sugar or wheat. Its all manageable but doing EFT, and the emotional work far surpassed any of my healing regimes. I also use Ayurveda herbs and cooking.
