Portales was a bit gusty, but a very nice time. We met lots of wonderful flyers and saw some awesome kites.

OK, here's another one, this time in Ruidoso, NM. (Don't mean to hijack the Albuquerque event scene. Actually looking forward to edgewood. Is there anybody out there?)

Here is an event that is close enough to be considered. Clovis is on the east side of the state where I have found some really nice flying air on past trips. We will be bringing White Birds, Revs, and two liners.

Cannon AFB 6th Annual Kite Carnival

Would love to bring some kites from southern NM depending on time & date. Will definitely be at the Edgewood festival May 2nd and 3rd.

We are game - If someone has a location in Abq and a day time lets see what we can do.

The wind has picked up and the weather is ripe. Let the soaring of the kites begin!

Hello Everyone, I've just recently moved here from Cleveland, OH and found the strong breezes that come off the lake to be perfect for flying. But since I've been here I've tried to get out to find open spaces that aren't too rough in terrain but far from power lines. I found a small spot near the airport, called USS Bullhead Memorial park at the end of San Pedro DR SE. It has baseball and Rugby Fields a little muddy, but nice. If you have any other Places reply.

This is the first of any (though small) groups I've seen in the area for kites.
I've been here a few years and the best place I've found to go around the city is probably the open space between Unser and the volcanoes. A short hike, maybe 15-20 minutes, climb over the volcanic rock and you can usually get pretty good winds off the top of the mesa. Plenty of room up there to get well away from the power lines. The ground is a bit rough, beware of high desert flora, brush, and the occasional small snake.

The only other 'good' place that I can think of..... I believe, for $20 dollars a year, the balloon park will lease out a key to access the north take off fields. Obviously accessible only when nothing else is happening. I have yet to check it out, but I bet it makes for great kiting. There may not be enough room for any huge power kites to buggy or scuddle you around the field if its busy, but lots o' room for single, dual, and quad line kites.
