If you are still looking for goat milk these folks sell it: http://www.sunshinefarmsnm.com/index.html

We buy raw milk from them every few months, and they are very nice to deal with.

Hi Jen. Gosh, thank you for your help. I still want to get some goats milk from you. I spent most of the morning that I talked to you on the phone w/ "goat people" and was able to have "Dr. Miracle" come down and give us advice. We needed to act fast, and it was suggested that we give our sick baby goat cows milk (until we could get goats milk). We started him on penicilin, a pro-biotic (i think its the same one your recommended) and a little "goat tylenol". He is up! And thankfully, eating. I'll try to get in touch w/ you about getting some goat milk. Thanks again!! cherie Delete Comment

Hi Cherie.
I just called you about goat milk and remembered the name of the probiotic -Fast-Track. You can also make your own probiotic/electrolyte mix. Another good resource for new goat owners are two Yahoo groups: Holistic Goat and Practical Goats. I learned a lot from folks on these boards when I first started keeping goats. Good luck with the little one and feel free to call with questions. Jen

Is it ok to ask a "goat" question on the chicken blog?
Does anyone know where I can buy raw goat milk from in albuquerque? I have a sick baby goat - and need fresh goat milk today.

I think eggs can last a long time - as long as you havent washed them and they have no cracks..I wouldnt worry too much about it! I dont put our eggs in the fridge - they sit out on my counter in a basket, and I have never had a problem.
Apparently washing them removes some protecting barrier that keeps them from rotting, so its better to just scrape anything that might be on there off, or just crack the egg from the other side.
If they've been in your yard for five years you must be doing something right!

Greetings! We saw the article in the Sunday paper and just had to join. Sorry we missed the Coop Tour. We have been looking for help for a few years but could not find any locally, until now. We live in the South Valley and about 5 yrs ago two hens took up residence in our yard. We have no coop for them so they sleep in our trees. They are named "Mazey" and "Chicken LIttle" and just seem happy to be here. They scratch around the property and keep down the snail and other critter populations. We feed them cracked corn and suet treats. They also eat birdseed that falls to the ground from our feeders. It took us awhile to figure out they were laying hens because they are very sneaky about where they make their nests. We finally got wise to them and try to locate them each year to collect the eggs while they are still good to use. We need to know more about what needs they have and about the whole egg collecting process. Like how long are they good for and what to wash them with, etc. We have given some to our friends and relatives but we want to be sure they are safe. We would appreciate any help this group can give us. And we have lots of stories to tell about our girls! Thanks.
