Hi, I want to add one or preferably two hens to my small flock of 3. They are a year old and each lay 5 eggs a week (LOVE it).  I so enjoy them and have heard it's difficult to increase the flock.  Please advise me - I need some comments, tidbits of information, any knowledge to put forth, helpful advice.  Anything you can tell me, I'll appeciate! Happy chicken days to you all.

Just be ready for some squabbling!   I would add two rather than one and if possible I would add some "obstacles" to the coop, where they can hide, if need be.....

Make sure the new ones are big enough to defend themselves, or fast enough to run and hide.....

Good luck!

You could always borrow a rooster for a month and let one of the hens raise some chicks, that's one way to a) keep the peace and b) minimize the exposure to parasites and diseases that new birds may arrive with.

OH what a GREAT idea! I love it!

Do you know anyone I could "borrow" a rooster from?  Does anyone actually do this? It sounds perfect!

Calling all Friends of Roosters : Is anyone willing to stud out their Rooster for a few weeks?

Thank you!!

People are usually trying to give roosters away on this list, I bet somebody will loan you one and cross their fingers that you'll keep it. ;)
