Mereks disease question

I had to put my Polish down last weekend, the vet told me she had seen a lot of polish and silkies come down with this.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I had an ooooold rooster with it for years but he was fairly functional so I didn't realize it until after his death.  I had a LOT of chicks come down with it one year.  One or two came out of it, the rest I ended up euthanizing myself (vinegar + baking soda + sealed plastic tub with straw bedding).

They're all silkies.
